On 20 March, parts specialist TVH welcomed a group of fifth year primary school students from Prizma De Talententuin for a STEM workshop. With this action, TVH continues its efforts to get young people excited about engineering.
The students were welcomed in the TVH Experience Center, at the headquarters in Waregem, for an introduction to TVH. Through play – for example, by virtually driving a forklift truck – they discovered the company. The guided tour was followed by a workshop focusing on CNC (computer numerical control) and electronics.
Koen Mathys (Talent Development Manager at TVH): "The students created their own key ring using a CNC machine. In the Electronics department, they discovered how a joystick works and is tested. In doing so, they also visited the largest, best equipped and most diverse service centre for electronic parts for all types of electric vehicles in Europe."
TECHNOLOGY IN THE SPOTLIGHT
With this visit and other STEM actions, TVH aims to promote engineering. Koen Mathys: "At TVH, people with technical skills are essential. Unfortunately, there is a shortage in the labour market. Through events like these, we want to give technical fields more attention and ignite the passion for engineering from a young age."
Earlier this month, TVH awarded diplomas to another group of fifth- and sixth-year students. They attended a series of workshops of the Techniekacademie, an initiative of Hogeschool VIVES with TVH as its partner and sponsor.
Another brand-new STEM event for secondary education is scheduled for May: TVH Universalis Technicalis. Koen Mathys: "Following the successful TV format of 'Homo Universalis', we are launching an exciting elimination race for schools, but with a focus on technology."
