Your role and responsibilities

GemOne is looking for a junior R&D engineer to join our R&D team within our broader Products organization. Within GemOne, we build our products from the ground up, i.e. from design, over firmware development, up until prototype validations. To support that, we also invest heavily in the software engineering that comes with it -upon joining our R&D team, you can expect to be involved in the wide range of exciting stuff that’s happening.

From the get-go, you will be the main point of contact for everything related to our CAN engineering. Of course you will be able to learn from seasoned engineers with expert knowledge on the matter on how to tackle the challenges it provides, however from the moment you feel comfortable, it’ll be you setting the priorities and pace of development when it comes to CAN.

On top of that, you will run alongside your colleagues within the R&D department to learn and help out wherever needed to further develop your skills. Upon mastering the “basic” skills, there is also ample opportunity to pursue areas of development that you have identified yourself (e.g. becoming an expert in a certain relevant field to GemOne’s business)

Aside from the abovementioned, you will also be able to learn from state-of-the-art IoT technology, together with a joyous mix of high-potentials and well seasoned professionals -if you want to learn a lot and very quickly, then you’ve come to the right place.

How to succeed / Your profile

  • 0-2 years of experience

  • You’re well known with Python and the ecosystem around it

  • Bits, bytes, endianness, signed values and bit operations have no secrets for you

  • You are capable of reading schematics and utilize basic tools to measure and diagnose an electrical system - even better if applied to an automotive environment!

  • You have an eye for detail, prefer quality over quantity and you have a structured way of working.

  • You’re not afraid to get hands-on eg. putting together custom cables with connectors

  • A basic knowledge of C/C++ applied to embedded systems.

  • You know your way around an embedded Linux system and Bash scripting

  • A notion of other programming languages such as Java, NodeJS/Typescript is a big plus.

  • Healthy level of criticism, i.e. not afraid to challenge the status quo

  • Proactive mindset -spotting problems / challenges, but also drafting the potential solution and acting upon it

  • Fluent in Dutch and English

  • Wanting to work cross-border (in function of project / necessity) & interact with different cultures

What's in it for you

  • We have the backing of TVH, a large global corporation which gives us stability and network.

  • We know life isn’t “one size fits all” so we offer flexible working hours and hybrid working arrangements (2 days working from home per week).

  • We offer an attractive salary package with extra benefits such as group & hospitalization insurance, company car, and the possibility to lease a bike. And we wouldn’t be a tech company without offering you a laptop and iPhone right?!

  • We also value professional development and offer continuous learning opportunities (both via 3rd party and from internal senior colleagues). We encourage personal initiative, entrepreneurship and a positive company culture.

  • We are located in a loft in Cotton Park, an amazing business park in Harelbeke. Want to play a game in our game room during your lunch break or enjoy the sun on our beautiful terrace with a drink and some sweets? We’ve got it all covered!

About GemOne

We’re GemOne, a start-up global tech company. We work in the field of telematics. Tele-what-ics??! Yes, we’re fully aware that telematics isn’t something most people know a lot about. But if you’re willing to learn and you have skills to share, then you might just find out that this company, role, and industry are a perfect fit for you.

We co-create cloud-based solutions and the necessary hardware components to gather data from industrial equipment, which our customers then use to streamline their industrial fleet management.

In a nutshell, we make technology that helps companies look after their industrial machinery and business better — we enable them to work safer and more efficiently, and save time and money.

With offices both in Belgium and in the US, we are growing rapidly and we’re looking for people with a can-do mindset and a team player mentality.

I have so many interests … Enjoying quality time with my wife and son, taking photographs of food, capturing special moments in life. Also, I have always been a passionate gamer. And 5 years ago, I started practising kendo. It helped me to focus on improving myself rather than competing with others.
Every new project brings new challenges, learnings and opportunities to grow. That fits in with my general curiosity. I want to know all about discoveries, inventions and technology for example. And learning new languages helps me to connect with people across cultures throughout TVH.
